How to Become a UNV volunteer

Introduction The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is the UN organisation that supports sustainable human development globally through promotion of volunteerism, including the mobilisation of volunteers. It serves the causes of peace and development by enhancing opportunities for participation by all peoples. It is universal, inclusive and embraces volunteer action in all its diversity.

Volunteerism can transform the pace and nature of development and it benefits both society at large and individual volunteer. It makes important contributions, economically as well as socially. It contributes to a more cohesive society by building trust and reciprocity among citizens

A United Nations Volunteers assignment is based on the values of free will, commitment, engagement and solidarity, which are the foundations of volunteerism.

Eligibility

The minimum requirements for consideration of UNV volunteer position are the following:

A.At least be 25 years old and over;

B.At least possess a first degree from a recognised University;

C.At least have two (02) years of consistent and relevant working experience following qualification, and;

D.Have knowledge of computer technology and good interpersonal skills.

Conditions of Service

UNV volunteers are provided with a Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) intended to cover basic needs, housing and utilities; a one-time Settling-in Grant (SIG) equivalent to one month VLA paid to national UNV volunteers going to serve in areas different from place of recruitment; life, health and permanent disability insurance, and; a resettlement allowance paid at the end of satisfactory service.
